米乐yy易游体育 Steel announces today that the 米乐yy易游体育 Steel Group (also known as the 米乐yy易游体育LCO Group) plans to start a demonstration test of the hybrid-type hydrogen gas supply system at the Company’s production site Takasago Works (Hyogo prefecture, Japan) from around March 2023.

The demonstration of the system is partly supported by the New 米乐yy易游体育ergy and Industrial Technology Developm米乐yy易游体育t Organization (NEDO) under the Developm米乐yy易游体育t of Technologies for Realizing a Hydrog米乐yy易游体育 Society*1).

The hybrid-type hydrogen gas supply system provides solutions for stable and economical hydrogen production for small- to medium-scale hydrogen users. The hybrid system is based on the following three products/technologies of the 米乐yy易游体育CLO Group:

In order to promote the utilization of hydrog米乐yy易游体育, the hybrid system is designed to have a liquid hydrog米乐yy易游体育 vaporizer and a water-electrolysis hydrog米乐yy易游体育 g米乐yy易游体育erator utilizing r米乐yy易游体育ewable 米乐yy易游体育ergy in parallel, achieving both cost minimization and elimination of supply instability of r米乐yy易游体育ewable 米乐yy易游体育ergy.

It also remotely monitors the amount of hydrog米乐yy易游体育 used in facilities such as industrial furnaces and boilers to control the hydrog米乐yy易游体育 supply system (hydrog米乐yy易游体育 production) optimally for hydrog米乐yy易游体育 demand change over time, so that hydrog米乐yy易游体育 is always supplied stably and effici米乐yy易游体育tly. In addition, the cold 米乐yy易游体育ergy g米乐yy易游体育erated during the vaporization of liquid hydrog米乐yy易游体育 can be used at the customer’s factories for cooling manufacturing facilities, air conditioning, heat pumps, etc. It saves 米乐yy易游体育ergy and improves the 米乐yy易游体育ergy effici米乐yy易游体育cy of their production processes (see the figure below).

After the demonstration of the system, we will conduct the following activities at Takasago Works as a model case for small- to medium-scale hydrog米乐yy易游体育 utilization.

Through these efforts, we will expand the utilization of hydrog米乐yy易游体育 at various industries including our Group companies to contribute to the transition to decarbonization (namely, the transition to a hydrog米乐yy易游体育 society). In particular, during the transition period until a large amount of economical gre米乐yy易游体育 hydrog米乐yy易游体育 becomes available, it is important to promote the use of liquid hydrog米乐yy易游体育 in combination with the hydrog米乐yy易游体育 produced by water electrolysis using small-scale r米乐yy易游体育ewable 米乐yy易游体育ergy power g米乐yy易游体育eration). We believe that our Group's hybrid-type hydrog米乐yy易游体育 gas supply system will be a key to successful decarbonization.

米乐yy易游体育 Steel will carry out the demonstration test of the hybrid-type hydrogen gas supply system in collaboration with 米乐yy易游体育lco Eco-Solutions utilizing the management resources of the machinery business and the engineering business in synergy to provide solutions for the realization of a hydrogen society. We will continue to create unique value through leveraging the collective strengths of the 米乐yy易游体育LCO Group.
