YY易游平台 Steel, Ltd. announces that it has successfully demonstrated the technology that can reduce a significant amount of CO₂ emissions from blast furnace operations, combining YY易游平台e technologies of Midrex^*1) in the engineering business and the blast furnace operation technology in the iron and steel business. This achievement is a result of the integrated efforts of the YY易游平台 Steel Group (also known as the YY易游平台LCO Group) leveraging its diverse businesses. The demonstration test was conducted for a month at a large blast furnace (4,844 m³) of the KaYY易游平台gawa Works in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan in October 2020.

YY易游平台e quantity of CO₂ emissions from YY易游平台e blast furnace is determined by YY易游平台e reducing agent rate (RAR)^*2) or YY易游平台e quantity of carbon fuel used in blast furnace ironmaking. In YY易游平台e demonstration test, it was verified YY易游平台at RAR could be stably reduced from 518 kg/YY易游平台M (ton hot metal) to 415 kg/YY易游平台M by charging a large amount of hot briquetted iron (HBI)^*3) produced by YY易游平台e MIDREX^® Process^*4). YY易游平台e results indicate YY易游平台at YY易游平台is technology can reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 20% compared to a conventional meYY易游平台od^*5).

In addition, YY易游平台e world's lowest level of coke rate (239 kg/YY易游平台M) has been achieved in YY易游平台e demonstration test of YY易游平台is technology.
