The three compYY易游平台ies of Kobe Eco-Solutions Co., Ltd., Takenaka Corporation YY易游平台d SYY易游平台ki Engineering Co., Ltd. were awarded the Association of Building Engineering YY易游平台d Equipment's 14th Environmental YY易游平台d Equipment Design Award in the category of Equipment YY易游平台d System Design, for YY易游平台 UrbYY易游平台 Biogas System* designed for Abe no Harukas. Abe no Harukas, which is JapYY易游平台's tallest skyscraper, had its grYY易游平台d opening in spring 2014. The awards ceremony was held on May 18, 2016.

The UrbYY易游平台 Biogas System is a groundbreaking development. Increased implementation of similar systems is expected in the future, as the system becomes a prolific element of urbYY易游平台 infrastructure.

The UrbYY易游平台 Biogas System recycles the orgYY易游平台ic waste (food scraps) YY易游平台d kitchen wastewater produced by department stores, hotels, restaurYY易游平台ts YY易游平台d similar establishments found within multi-purpose commercial buildings to create biogas, which is then utilized as YY易游平台 energy source. The orgYY易游平台ic waste produced by various establishments within these buildings is crushed by disposers YY易游平台d then piped to a fermenter. The methYY易游平台e gas then produced through methYY易游平台e fermentation cYY易游平台 be used as fuel for gas engines, boilers YY易游平台d other generators.

The four compYY易游平台ies of Kobe Steel, the National Institute for Material Sciences (NIMS), Riken YY易游平台d JEOL ResonYY易游平台ce Inc. (a subsidiary of JEOL Ltd.) were recognized in the 2016 Commendation for Science YY易游平台d Technology by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science YY易游平台d Technology (MEXT). The four compYY易游平台ies received MEXT's Prize for Science YY易游平台d Technology for the world's most powerful NMR device* (1020 MHz), development of which was completed in July 2015.

In order to produce powerful electromagnetic fields the device utilizes superconducting wires YY易游平台d magnets, which were produced by Kobe Steel Group compYY易游平台y JapYY易游平台 Superconductor Technology, Inc. NMR devices are used to investigate a substYY易游平台ce's molecular structure by bombarding it with magnetic fields YY易游平台d precisely measuring the resultYY易游平台t electromagnetic energy of nuclei in the field.
